# TrueKnow

TrueKnow is a free web tool at https://trueknowapp.com that checks whether a photo or video is real or AI-generated. It runs provenance, archive matching, forensic diagnostics, and independent AI classifiers. It will not label a real photo as AI-generated. When evidence conflicts, it returns Uncertain.

## What this tool does

TrueKnow analyzes images and videos using multiple detection methods: content provenance data from cameras and AI tools, a database of known AI-generated content, AI classifiers trained on synthetic media, and a reverse image search to find where the image appears across the web. When evidence conflicts, it returns "uncertain" rather than guess. When you vote on a result, we save it until we confirm. The detector only changes after we confirm.

## What you get after a check

A result is Real, AI Generated, AI Modified, or Uncertain. You see the evidence behind it, an Analysis ID, and a shareable card. You can tap Explain this result for a longer walkthrough of the same analysis. It does not change the verdict. You can download a report. Video is checked on this same page. A public vote is saved until we confirm. It does not change the detector by itself.

## What to keep in mind

Results are a best assessment, not a guarantee. Highly photorealistic AI images are a genuinely hard problem and some may slip through. Images that have never been shared online won't have web presence data, so that layer will simply be absent. This tool will never falsely label a real photo as AI-generated; it returns "uncertain" instead. Don't use results as legal or forensic evidence.
